A small boy in a bright yellow suit strides forward holding a huge red-and-white fish above his head, almost wearing it like a banner. The fish is nearly as big as he is, with a round dark eye and a red underside. Behind them the ground is a soft grey-brown with a couple of pale birds in the upper corner. Magic Fish is an encaustic on canvas from 2005, 30 by 25 centimetres. Roman Zuzuk paints the boy with obvious delight, the wax surface fused and scratched in his usual textured way.
