A woman stands in profile, face lifted slightly, her body painted in restless washes of rust, mauve and grey-blue that blur the line between skin and dress. The brushwork is loose and energetic, with darker accents pooling at the chest and falling away into the lower body. The Passerby, a watercolour by Olga Vasilyeva from 2016, stands upright at 33 by 70 centimetres.
How it looks in a room
The tall watercolour of a woman seen from behind hangs in a slim frame above a cream sofa, with plenty of white mount around it. Its cool blues and reds echo the green cushions and the plant beside the seating.
