A single turquoise wave curls and breaks across the front of Mikhail Mikora's Windy Day, its crest dissolving into a wide band of white foam. On the left, surf throws spray up against a wall of dark, broken rock, and a couple of low islets sit further out where the sea fades into a pale, hazy horizon. The sky is soft and overcast, so the green of the water carries most of the colour. Painted in oil on canvas in 2021, fairly large at 105 by 75 centimetres, with thick palette-knife strokes that give the foam real weight.
