About the artwork

Wenceslas Square on a wet autumn day, painted by Michael Slutsker in oil on canvas in 2025. The trees down the boulevard have turned yellow and orange, and the broad pavement is dark and mirror-like with rain. On the left a café terrace sits under awnings, with pub signs and lettering, including U HUSA, picked out above it, and people move along under umbrellas.

The square runs straight back into a soft grey distance, where the dome of the National Museum closes off the view. Slutsker piles the autumn colour and the reflections on thickly, then lets everything dissolve toward the far end. It is 70 by 65 centimetres, an everyday, rain-soaked afternoon on the square rather than a grand set piece.
