On the left a café terrace sits under awnings, with pub signs and lettering, including U HUSA, picked out above it, and people move along under umbrellas.

The square runs straight back into a soft grey distance, where the dome of the National Museum closes off the view. Slutsker piles the autumn colour and the reflections on thickly, then lets everything dissolve toward the far end. It is 70 by 65 centimetres, an everyday, rain-soaked afternoon on the square rather than a grand set piece.
