The Playground is seen straight down from above, looking onto a deep purple-blue surface where a crowd of children scatters in every direction. Their fair and capped heads, foreshortened bodies and outflung arms turn into a field of small marks, each one trailing a dark shadow that pins it to the ground. Near the left a single white football sits among them, the only clue to the game. Dima Dmitriev painted this aerial view in oil in 2022, a long horizontal canvas at 180 by 80 centimetres.
