A figure in a long pale coat walks across the canvas, seen from behind and slightly blurred, as if passing through low light. Shulman bands the background with horizontal sweeps of dark green, grey and dusty violet, and lays a pale violet streak along the ground that reads as wet reflection.

The coat is the brightest thing here, warm cream against the shadow. Study No 221. Reflex is oil on canvas from 2024, upright at roughly 41 by 57 centimetres, loosely and quickly brushed.
