Despite the title, the boat run aground on the right is a sturdy fishing vessel, its hull striped blue, white and red and its masts and rigging reaching off the top of the canvas. A small white sailboat is the one out on the open water, far off under a bank of heavy cloud. Slutsker lays the rocks and surf on at the left in thick, broken palette-knife strokes, flecked with stray reds and yellows, so the spray almost stands off the surface. The sea between is a cool grey-green, and a faint break of light glows on the horizon. An oil on canvas from 2018, wide in format.
