Shulman paints her with loose, watery brushwork, the floor barely indicated by a few grey strokes and a thin shadow, so the figure sits almost alone in the white space. The black of the dress and gloves and the flash of red sole carry the whole picture. Red lipstick is oil on canvas from 2021, a large upright canvas at 80 by 120 centimetres.
