A woman sits in profile, her dark curly hair catching the light, her face lowered and calm. She wears a top with a polka-dot collar, her bare arm resting across her lap. Behind her, Shulman lets a pale curtain of cream and grey run down in soft vertical streaks.
The lighting is warm and low, picking out her cheek and lips against the shadowed hair. Readiness for Compromise, oil on canvas, 50 by 70 centimetres, painted in 2017. A quiet, inward portrait.
