Figures with umbrellas move through a wet street, half-erased by rain and reflection. The nearest, a person carrying an umbrella and what looks like a bag, is the only one given any solidity. The rest are dark silhouettes dissolving into the pale, streaming pavement.

Shulman works in deep blue-blacks and cold greys against broad sweeps of near-white, the paint dragged downward so the whole scene seems to run with water. Rainy afternoon, oil on canvas, 55 by 80 centimetres, from 2022. It is more about the grey weather than any single face.
