Poppies opens onto a wide red field that rolls back in low hills towards a thin blue sky, with a few green bushes dotted across it. A girl stands with her back to us near the centre, in a pale blue dress and a straw hat with a blue band. She holds a loose bouquet of pink and lilac flowers against her shoulder and carries a basket on her other arm. Dima Dmitriev lays the red on thick and granular, so the field reads almost as one vibrating surface. Oil on canvas, 2022, 120 by 90 centimetres.
