The buildings are tall ornate apartment blocks in stone and render, one of them topped with a steep gabled tower, and a slender spire shows faintly in the grey distance. Light, brushy strokes keep the sky and the far end of the street soft and hazy. At 100 by 80 centimetres it is a generous, horizontal canvas, and the mood is quiet rather than busy, an ordinary damp morning in the old part of town.
