An old man peers down through pince-nez glasses at a few small coins resting in his open palm, a contented little smile under his grey beard. He wears a soft cap, a brocade waistcoat and a bright orange-red cravat that gives the picture its one warm note against the cool grey-brown surroundings. Slutsker builds the face and hands from thick, broken strokes, all the attention on that careful, almost tender study of the coins. Oil on canvas, upright at 50 by 60 centimetres, painted in 2025.
