A genial old man with a full grey beard raises a glass of golden wine and smiles straight out at us. He wears a tan waistcoat over a white shirt, one arm resting on the head of a wooden wine barrel, and the warm light comes in from the right against a soft brown background. Slutsker handles the face and beard with thick, confident strokes and lets the wine glow in the glass. Oil on canvas, upright at 60 by 80 centimetres, painted in 2025, warm and openly good-natured.
