An old country man holds a live rooster against his chest, the bird's red comb and wattles bright beside his weathered, smiling face. He wears a dark cap, a knotted orange neckerchief and a sheepskin-collared coat, and the rooster shows off green and blue tail feathers below. Slutsker lays the paint on thick and lively, especially across the man's beard and the bird's plumage, against a soft grey-brown ground. Oil on canvas, upright at 60 by 75 centimetres, painted in 2025, warm and good-humoured throughout.
