Shulman paints the nude from behind, a woman kneeling with her weight settled back on her heels, her blonde hair loosely pinned up. The light falls across her shoulders and the long line of her back, modelled in warm browns and ochres, while the background stays an almost empty pale wash.
The tall, narrow canvas, 37 by 87 centimetres, suits the upright pose and keeps all the attention on the figure. Morning Guest is oil on canvas from 2017, quiet and study-like, with the brushwork left visible.
