A white summer dress hangs against the wall, painted as if caught in a shaft of light. The bodice and full skirt are scattered with small red dots, the one bit of strong colour in an otherwise pale picture, and the cloth is built up in broad, confident strokes of cream and grey.

Behind the dress Shulman lays in a soft shadow and edges of dusty violet and ochre, so the garment seems to float a little off the surface. There is nobody wearing it, yet the empty dress carries a clear sense of someone remembered.
