May. Walk through the Mountains, 2017

A walk across a hillside meadow scattered thick with wildflowers, white, red and yellow flecks worked into the deep green grass. A woman stands at the centre in a white blouse, long dark skirt and a wide straw hat, one hand raised near her face. Two men in dark clothes and hats are with her, one stooping at the left, the other to the right leaning on a staff with a pack on his shoulders. Behind them the land falls away under a warm, clouded evening sky. Shulman gives the scene a soft, nostalgic, almost period feel. Oil on canvas, 2017, an upright 70 by 100 centimetres.
