About the artwork

A reclining stone lion lies along the foreground, paw over a ball, looking out over the snowy castle park at Lysá nad Labem. Behind it the chateau spreads in a dark night, with a round tower and long wings, and snow keeps falling across the whole plate. The statue was carved by the so-called Sculptor from Venice in 1734-1735. Alexandrov used vernis mou and aquatint, which give the deep velvety dark and the soft flecks of snow. Pencil-signed Lysá n. L., dated 2021. About 12.2 by 10 cm.
