A barefoot girl picks her way across pale rocks at the edge of dark water, balancing with her arms held out and a pink sandal dangling from each hand. This oil on canvas by Alexey Slusar, from 2022, is upright at 80 by 62 centimetres.
She wears a pale lilac-white summer dress and looks down at her footing, her fair hair lifted slightly. Around her the boulders are wet and mossy, and the water between them is almost black, with one warm reflection breaking the surface. The light falls on the dress and her bare shoulders, leaving the rocks in cooler shadow.
