A pair of well-worn brown leather work boots stands on a grey surface, laces loosened and trailing, the toes scuffed and the leather creased from real use. Shulman lights them from the left so the polish catches along the toecaps, and sets them against a darker grey ground that lets the colour glow. There is no figure and no story, just two boots painted with the seriousness usually saved for a portrait. Oil on canvas, 2022, 120 by 100 centimetres.
