Two figures press close together, on the edge of a kiss, painted in cool whites and pale violets that glow out of an almost black ground. The light models their faces, shoulders and intertwined arms while everything else falls away into darkness. Across the top, Shulman has lettered a line from Paul Eluard in French, je t'aime pour toutes les femmes que je n'ai pas connues, I love you for all the women I have never known. Oil on canvas, 2022, a 70 by 70 centimetre square.
