Fishing boats moored together in a calm harbour at dusk, their masts and rigging cutting up against a soft peach and grey sky. The water is almost still, a flat band of warm grey-green that mirrors the hulls, and a couple of larger trawlers lie out towards the horizon with another heading off in the distance. Slutsker gets a lot of detail into the working boats up close, the winches, cabins, coiled lines and red floats, while the far shore dissolves into haze.

This is a big, wide oil on canvas, 140 by 95 centimetres, from 2013. The whole thing runs on quiet, low light and that worn, lived-in look of a real fishing port at the end of the day.
