A cluster of pink autumn crocuses, painted close-up on silk by Helena Tener. The blooms open in soft lilac and rose, their slim petals catching the light while thin orange stamens stand at the centre of each flower. Around them the background dissolves into warm golden grasses and a hazy glow, so the crocuses seem to float rather than sit in a fixed spot. Acrylic on silk gives the whole piece a gentle, slightly blurred softness that suits the subject. At 140 by 70 centimetres it is wide and panoramic, made to be seen across a room.
