Country Life is a large oil on canvas from 2011, 120 by 90 centimetres, and there is plenty going on. In the foreground a grinning man in orange crouches to embrace a big pale dog that nuzzles his face. Behind them, walking off to the right, a man and a woman in a blue dress carry a rake between them across their shoulders, the woman in red heels.

The land falls away in slabs of blue, rust and ochre to a green fringe of round trees, with a small white house and red roof set on a rise. The sky above is a flat band of warm yellow.

Roman Zuzuk keeps the whole thing earthy and good-humoured, the figures stocky and simplified, the colour laid on in broad confident areas. It reads as a day in the countryside told as one cheerful tangle of people, animals and tools.
