A young woman stands alone on a wet, mirror-flat shore, her back to us, arms spread wide and head tipped slightly up. She wears a short white dress and a pale blue sun hat, and her reflection runs down into the water beneath her bare feet. Almost everything else is blue and violet: a soft, cloud-streaked sky with one paler patch of light low on the horizon, where Dima Dmitriev lets the colour open up. Beautiful Life is an oil on canvas from 2022, wide at 140 by 100 centimetres, and the single small figure against all that space is what gives it its calm.
